Four Things You Didn’t Know to Stay Young At Heart And Hair

Well, that’s a deep subject, hmm…

My mom is who I should have been relating about all along. And believe me our relationship reaches deep and sometimes murky. I love her to the nth degree, but we are total opposites. Or, maybe we are so alike we butt heads. Only a good counselor (on my part) knows for sure!

My mom can no longer drive due to her license being taken away at age 84 for the safety issue of Macular Degeneration. She can only see through the periphery of each eye. My mom can read with glasses, a magnifier and under full spectrum lighting. My Mom goes about her day as if she is fully sighted, never a complaint about it.

But, what does this have to do with hair?

Determination, focused on a goal of looking good and feeling younger at heart. E.L. has always gotten her hair done early in the day, every 2 weeks before the 60’s hit. Now she goes for a haircut and color every 4 weeks. Now how does she get there? Sorry to say I live in CA and she lives in PA, so I cannot take her to the stylist. Yes, it’s a small town, but it is way too far for her to walk. Can her brother come and take her? Sure, but at 8:30AM, she needs him for more non-routine appointments. Mom has worked her magic to stay feeling young at heart.

So what happened?

Mom’s hairdresser has been picking her up every 4th Thursday on her way to work. And the day before her appointment Mom calls the county bus system to arrange to be picked up at the salon to come home, feeling younger and looking better! Now that’s what I call integrated independance! It takes a village to support us all.

My Conclusion….

We can never take any body part for granted. Eat, sleep well and exercise mind and body.
Make lemonade with lemons. You know what I mean.
Sweeten our life by being lovingly involved in others lives.
Always find the time to care for our hair and this action will keep us looking and feeling younger!

As for styling, haircuts are there to frame our face. Get it, a FRAME, not the end all be all scenario. If your long hair seems to be dragging you down, have it cut to shoulder length. if you are getting a little thicker under the chin have that long hair cut to shoulder length and the front cut to frame the neck and chin. Any hair hanging straight down from brows only accentuates the thick neck area and says you are hiding your face. Shorter hair or bob hair cuts should never have roundness to them. Please, stop rounding out the bottom of your bob. Stop rounding out those short layers with a round brush. Elongate the roundness, by pulling out the brush before the hot curl has hardened into the curl. Any roundness in your “look”dates you. I agree with Oribe, that shoulder length or longer hair needs to be more blunt and not look so thinned out on the ends. It gives the style weight, or substance, not evaporate into nothing.

There you have it. I spilled my guts. Use what you may. At Style like a Pro, my desire is to teach women how to take charge of their styling needs easily, efficiently and to feel great about themselves when they leave their home!

What is Faith?

Faith is very friendly and sweet, and draws huge crowds everywhere he goes. There was a huge crowd following him as he walked to the waiting area for the plane we were going to board, it got my attention because flashes were going off, I thought it must be a celebrity
This is ‘Faith’

This dog was born on Christmas Eve in the year 2002. He was born with 3 legs – 2 healthy hind legs and 1 abnormal front leg which need to be amputated. He of course could not walk when he was born. Even his mother did not want him

His first owner also did not think that he can survive. Therefore, he was thinking of ‘putting him to sleep’.

By this time, his present owner, Jude Stringfellow, met him and wanted to take care of him.
She is determined to teach and train this dog to walk by himself. Therefore she named him ‘Faith’

In the beginning, she put Faith on a surfing board to let him feel the movements. Later she used peanut butter on a spoon as a lure and reward for him to stand up and jump around. Even the other dog at home also helped to encourage him to walk. Amazingly, only after 6 months, like a miracle, Faith learned to balance on his 2 hind legs and jumped to move forward. After further training in the snow, he now can walk like a human being.

Faith loves to walk around now. No matter where he goes, he just attracts all the people around him.
He is now becoming famous on the international scene. He has appeared on various newspapers and TV shows.
There is even one book entitled ‘With a little faith’ being published about him. He was even considered to appear in one of Harry Potter movies.

His present owner Jude Stringfellew has given up her teaching post and plans to take him around the world to preach that even without a perfect body, one can have a perfect soul’.

In life there are always undesirable things. Perhaps one will feel better if one changes the point of view from another direction. I hope this message will bring fresh new ways of thinking to everyone and that everyone can appreciate and be thankful for each beautiful day that follows. Faith is the continual demonstration of the Strength of Life
